Three unemployed men find the answer to all their money problems when they receive a call from a kidnapper. This movie ushered Bollywood in an era of light, intelligent comedies but Bollywood being Bollywood, soon meandered.
Desperate measures are taken by a man who tries to save his family from the dark side of the law. An Edge-of-the-seat thriller with surprising twists and turns. Excellent visual feast which will rekindle your faith in Bollywood.
A movie that you can see any number of times. A classic comedy of errors which has fun, suspense and soul. Deceptively simple film-making by the great Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
5. Andaz apna apna.
Two slackers competing for the affections of an heiress, inadvertently become her protectors from an evil criminal. A cult comedy classic which was a flop when it released first. Keeps growing on you with each repeated viewing.
4. Drishyam in Malayalam.
The Original with India’s finest actor Mohanlal. Even the remakes of this movie are in the all time top ten lists of the other languages. A phenomenon in entire Indian film industry.
The aging patriarch of an organized mafia dynasty looks out for a way to die with minimum pain and maximum repletion. Mani Ratnam rose to fame with this superb, Godfather-inspired, crime story.
2. Anbe Sivam.
Two men, one young and arrogant, the other damaged – physically but not spiritually – by life, are thrown together by circumstances, and find that they are in some ways bound together by fate. The movie is an experience of a lifetime.
The story of a terminally ill man who wishes to live life to the full before the inevitable occurs, as told by his best friend. This movie showcases why Bollywood should remain true to itself instead of copying Hollywood.
